14 Ways you are ruining your skin

1. Not wearing sunscreen on nonsunny days. Even when it’s overcast, those aging UV rays can get ya. Need a sunscreen rec? Fine your SPF soulmate out of these nine lightweight ones.

2. Picking at your face. You know you shouldn’t, but it’s so, so tempting. But it can lead to acne scars, so stop it.

3. Not taking your makeup off before bed. This not only gives your makeup time to clog pores, but you’re interrupting your skin’s overnight repair process. And yes, you even have to wash off mineral makeup too. At the very least, keep some makeup wipes on your bedside table for the times when you just can’t.

4. Not rinsing right after the gym. This can cause breakouts not only on your face but on your back too.

5. Having the same morning and nighttime routines. Your skin needs protection during the day and ingredients that help it repair at night. Here’s exactly how your A.M. and P.M. processes should differ.

6. Reaching for the same washcloth several nights in a row. Ideally you should be washing them after every use because the moisture in them allows bacteria to grow. And bacteria wasn’t invited to this skin party.

7. Ignoring antioxidants like vitamin C. These ingredients kill aging free radicals, and they’re your best defense against fine lines. Find out about one of our writer’s favorites here.

8. Not using the right motion when you cleanse. According to one facialist, you need to “glide your fingertips, covered with cleanser, up over your nose, onto your forehead, around the eyes, and down the cheeks until you reach your chin. Kind of like doing mini breaststrokes on your face.”

9. Failing to take your makeup off before you work out. Hello, clogged pores!

10. Not reapplying your sunscreen. Every two hours. No excuses.

11. Relying on facial wipes as your only cleansing tactic. They’ll work in a pinch, and they’re great for taking off makeup before you wash, but as one derm explained to us, they leave behind a film that can dry out your skin.

– This is a tough one for me, I always use facial wipes, I will do a review one facial       wipes soon.

12. Using expired makeup. It’s grosser than you think.

13. Taking hot showers, It dries our your skin. Lukewarm is your goal. a difficult goal, but one you should try.

14. Not washing your makeup brushes once a week. (Refer to previous post how to wash your makeup brushes)

HOW TO: Apply Eye cream correctly

So if you anything like me, you will have no idea that there is a right and wrong way to apply eye cream.

And apparently I have been applying it wrong my entire life.

By applying eye cream close to your eyes you are causing yourself puffy eyes, I always thought the closer you got your eye cream to your eye the better.I always thought that puffy eyes was caused due to lack of sleep (But I love sleep, so any excuse to nap longer)

Why does it cause puffy eyes:  Cream will travel almost an inch over time, so by applying the cream near to your crows feet it will travel into your eyes, giving you puffy eyes when you wake.

I use the Clarins Contour Gel – i have never used any other brand or eye gel/cream, if you have any recommendations, please post in the comment section below.

Take a look here at how to correctly apply your eye cream.

Beauty Review (Clarins)

If you havn’t already noticed, Clarins has been and will always be my favourite product.

At my age (26, sigh) they have the perfect range for my skin, the Daily Energising range. which is not only suited for for my age group but also for our age groups pocket. It really is an incredible, well known brand, which is why I never even thought of going near their counter, How could I afford this? Until one day, I walked over whilst there wasn’t a sales assistant to judge me if I said i couldn’t afford it.

I now have such a large range at home, i could start my own counter at Edgars.

Not only does Clarins have amazing specials every 2 -3 months but their products will last you 6 months if not more.

The Daily energising range prices range from R125 – R500 – I use the Daily energising face wash (Which is +- R180), this lasts me 7 months using it twice a day.

My daily energising face cream is roughly R255 and also lasts about 7 months.

With buying these two products, you can now choose 3 full sample sized products to go with it, I always choose the Hydraquench (A bit pricier +-R500) but my skin LOVES it, the night cream and this time I opted for the eye shadow pallet (Which let me tell you, is probably the best eye shadow I have ever used).

I also received a lovely beach bag with a larged sized treatment fragrance (30ML) – which I don’t really enjoy, It has more of a mature scent. But I’m not complaining, it was a FREE gift.

Since I started using Clarins my skin has been brighter and not as tight. It feels moisturised all day and as a person who has extremely dry skin, I have struggled finding a product/brand that really works.
